Movies Reviewed

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2

My sister and I saw this in the theater yesterday.  I think I've only gone to 2 other HP movies in the theater because I'm not a big fan of the movies (they don't compare to the books).  One of the problems with the movies is that they leave out so many details, and obviously they have to because the books are so detailed.  But since it's been years since I've read the 7th book, I went into this movie not really focusing on the favorite details that I didn't want left out.  With that perspective it was actually a really good movie.  One of my friends mentioned on Facebook that she thought it was too much action and not enough dialogue, but I didn't think that.  Because she said that, I thought it would be all about the huge battle at the end and showing all that action at Hogwarts, but it hardly showed any of it.  It wrapped up the story pretty well and did a good job revealing the true Snape (my favorite character).  I thought the very end was funny though (the part where they're all supposed to be married and older).  I'm glad they put it in because of course we all want to see that part, but it just seemed kind of awkward for all the actors... like they don't have chemistry as older married couples; it was just weird.  Also, the guy who plays Dumbledore is nothing like the Dumbledore I imagined when I read the books.  The first actor who died after the first movie was much better.  Dumbledore is supposed to have a constant, kind twinkle in his eye and demeanor, and the actor who plays him doesn't show that at all.  But anyway.  I guess I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

X-Men: First Class

Tony and I saw this about a month and a half ago.  I'm not that particular about seeing movies when they come out - we usually just wait for RedBox.  But I always want to see the X-Men movies in theater.  Tony was excited to see this in theater too because he loves action and special effects, so it was a win-win for both of us.  I watched the cartoon version of X-Men when I was a kid even though I never wanted to watch any other "boy cartoons."  There was something about this story that was fascinating, and I still find that fascination with the movies.  I think these are the very best superhero-type movies ever made.  The actors always do a good job, and this movie was no exception.  I liked seeing more of the beginning of the story for Magneto and how his anger and need for revenge developed.  It was also interesting to see the early friendship of him and Charles Xavier.  I love that even though Magneto is the "bad guy," he's still likable and you can understand his perspective.  I also liked seeing how Beast became Beast.  I don't read the comics so I don't know any of those stories and it's fun to learn about them in the movies.  I loved Kevin Bacon in it; I wasn't expecting to see him, but he did a really good job!  I give this movie 5 stars or whatever the highest rating is, and I'm sure we'll buy it when it comes out.

Transformers 3

I couldn't find a bigger picture than this.  Well I probably could have but I didn't want to look.  But it doesn't need a bigger picture because it's a REALLY stupid movie.  I don't like the Transformers series at all.  We saw this in theater for Tony's birthday because he loves seeing action and special effects on the big screen, but we were both disappointed in the story and dialogue.  It was pretty much all action and it went on for way too long.  I think the Transformers movies are really objectifying of and degrading to women, and that's the main reason I just don't like them.  This movie stayed true to that - having a beautiful woman run around scantily clad and even wearing stiletto heels while running through rubble and fighting giant robots the entire movie.  Wow, that's just embarrassing.  Also, what's his name, the main actor - he's not funny when he's supposed to be, and I don't think he's a good actor.  I just think these movies are really cheesy and I don't understand why they're popular.  I give it zero stars.

You quoted me! My first quote! Bahahaha, oh man, I need to lay off the drugs. Anyhoodle, I'm glad you enjoyed it. My husband really liked all those other weird movies, but I did not see them. I was at home alone raising children. Hey, that will be you soon! Ok, getting off the drugs. Love your blog April!

Thanks Kelly. I'm glad you felt special about your quote. Tony will not see movies without me when we have kids! I don't think he'd want to anyway.
